The puzzle was to align a picture. The picture was a circle, formed of rings. Each ring turned, and some turned independantly, while others were linked and turned together. I had all the rings matched up except one, the outer most ring, which stubbornly refused to cooperate. no matter what I tried, it remained one tick to the right or left, never matching with the other rings. I fought with the puzzle for a long time...minutes. Up until this point, the puzzles had been simple, easy, I flatter myself and digress.
But this one ring defied me, refused to align. I set down the controller and did other things, blowing off steam....and when I came back, the answer was clear. The ring I was concerned with was never wrong...the position I'd left it in was exactly right...it was the _whole_picture_ that was off. I'd had it canted one tick to the left the whole time. Once I saw this, it was obvious. in seconds I'd turned the other rings to their proper positions and the final picture was complete. I'd been looking at it sideways when the answer was staring me in the face the whole time, I just couldn't see it I was so focused on the outer most ring that wouldn't fit.
this seems like a potent metaphor for ....alot of things.
